On July 18th, the Washington, DC Society of the AIA joined more than 20 other organizations at the 4th Annual Day of Archaeology Festival, sponsored by the non-profit group Archaeology in the Community and hosted by Dumbarton House. Despite torrential downpours in the morning, followed by scorching heat, more than 300 people attended the event!

The festival is one of many events worldwide held in support of Day of Archaeology, which fell officially on Friday, July 24th in 2015. As explained on its website, the Day of Archaeology program "aims to provide a window into the daily lives of archaeologists from all over the world. The project asks people working, studying or volunteering in the archaeological world to participate with us in a 'Day of Archaeology' each year in the summer by recording their day and sharing it through text, images or video on this website. The resulting Day of Archaeology project demonstrates the wide variety of work our profession undertakes day-to-day across the globe, and helps to raise public awareness of the relevance and importance of archaeology to the modern world."

The Washington, DC Society is also planning an event for International Archaeology Day in October 2015. Details coming soon!
